As It Is In Heaven
As It Is in Heaven is coming to the Edward and Bernice Humphreys Theater Building September 25–28.
The University of Memphis Department of Theatre & Dance warmly invites the community to experience As It Is in Heaven, a compelling exploration of faith, community, and tradition. Written by Arlene Hutton, this evocative play transports audiences to the 1830s Shaker society of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, where the arrival of Fanny, a non-believer claiming to have seen angels, challenges the town’s orderly way of life. Through heartfelt hymns, dance, and spiritual gifts, the story explores themes of doubt, wonder, and the search for truth in a world shaped by faith and custom.
Directed by Holly L. Derr, this production offers a thoughtful and moving celebration of Shaker traditions and the human spirit.
