The Night Witches

Against the roar of warplanes and doubt, these women wrote their own legacy in the sky.

The University of Memphis Department of Theatre and Dance is honored to present The Night Witches, a riveting wartime drama by Rachel Bublitz that tells the extraordinary true story of the Soviet Union’s all-female 588th Night Bomber Regiment. Known to their enemies as the “Night Witches,” these daring pilots flew wooden planes through the darkness of WWII battlefields, striking fear into the Nazis and breaking barriers for women in combat.

This evocative production follows Nina and Vera as they embark on their first mission, highlighting the strength, sacrifice, and sisterhood forged in the face of danger. Through poetic dialogue, stylized movement, and haunting music, The Night Witches captures the grit and glory of history’s unsung heroines.

Directed by Kaylea Jo Egnor, the show is both a tribute and a testament to the power of resilience and unity in the darkest of times.
